ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Rockford Fire Department welcomes its newest employees. Sixteen recruits were sworn in today at a ceremony at NIU Rockford.
All the recruits have different reasons for wanting to be part of the fire department. One recruit says his dad, a retired firefighter, inspired him to join.
"The honor and the tradition of being a firefighter. Being able to help people, but just all the teamwork and all the guys you'll know for a lifetime, and all the guys we still have yet to meet," new recruit Timothy Brown said.
The new recruits start 10 weeks of training on Monday.
