ROCKFORD (WREX) - If everything goes as planned, former Chicago Cubs first baseman Randall Simon will be a Rockford RiverHawk by Wednesday.
RiverHawks owner Dave Ciaracchi told the 13 Sports Authority Tuesday night that a deal has been worked out to acquire Simon and that he hopes to have his name on the contract this week, possibly by Wednesday.
Ciaracchi said the deal is in the "final stages".
"Everything between us and his agent has been positive," Ciaracchi said, adding that he hopes to finalize the details on Wednesday.
Simon played for the Cubs during the 2003 season after coming over in a mid-season trade from Pittsburgh. He helped the team come within one win over the World Series that season.
Simon broke into the big leagues in 1997 and played 537 games during an eight year MLB career. He last played in the majors in 2006.
