Discovery Center Museum (File Photo)ROCKFORD (WREX) - Discovery Center Museum is getting $300,000 to improve its aeronautics and space science education program.
NASA's Office of Education is working with science museums and planetariums to upgrade educational programs.
Discovery Center will use the money to upgrade its space and astronomy classes and programs, refurbish the current Air and Flight exhibition, support its in-house and portable planetariums, and the popular Outreach to Space portable exhibition the Museum that travels to fairs, festivals and community organizations throughout the region.
"We look forward to sharing the benefits of the award with the children and families we serve," says Sarah Wolf, executive director of Discovery Center Museum.
"I am proud to support educational programs at one of the top children's museums in the country. Children and their families in Rockford and across Illinois will benefit from these improvements for years to come," said Senator Dick Durbin, who helped secure the funds for the Discovery Center.
