ROCKFORD (WREX) - A Veterans Day celebration comes with special meaning for one student. Junior Cassie Ayars organized an assembly for North Love Christian School.
It's part of her project to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor the organization has.
The ceremony honored the veterans with performances and gifts. Cassie also arranged for veterans to visit certain classes to talk to the students and answer questions.
The entire thing took more than two months of hard work, but Cassie is motivated by more than just earning the Gold Award. Her father is also a veteran. "I feel that it is important to honor the veterans because they have fought for our freedom, and for our country, so that we can have freedoms," she said.
