OREGON (WREX) - A budget crunch in Ogle County means job cuts for police officers.
The county lost more than one million dollars in revenue that is has to make up in the budget.
That means a 10% cut to the sheriff's department, which translates to 10 full time and 8 part time workers being laid off.
The police union doesn't want to freeze wages, but says it's still open to discussions.
"I still hope that when everybody sees the serious impact of these layoffs they will realize both sides need to get together and work out a compromise," Ogle County Sheriff Greg Beitel said.
The county board is expected to vote on the budget on November 17.
