ROCKFORD (WREX)- Families combine an appreciation for healthy lifestyles and their heritage at the Hispanic Families Festival.
La Voz Latina teamed up with Un Buen Doctor magazine to teach the Hispanic community about ways to prevent sickness. The Illinois Department of Public Health director and other local health leaders spoke about the importance of preventive care and seasonal flu shots. There were also free screenings for various diseases.
Organizers say the lesson comes at a critical time. "I think everybody right now is concerned about the flu, about the H1N1 virus and it's important to get educate the community and make it accessible to people," said La Voz Latina Executive Director Patricia Gomez.
Winnebago County health administrators were on hand to administer seasonal flu shots.
