ROCKFORD (WREX) - State leaders enourage people in Illinois to learn how to use computers. The Microsoft Elevate America program offers free training vouchers to anyone who wants to update their computer skills.
The Workforce Connection in Rockford is one of 150 locations that's giving away those vouchers. The idea is to retrain people to make themselves more marketable in the workforce.
"A lot of people that have been unemployed for a length of time. You know, employers are looking to see what you're doing, if you're idle at home, not doing anything, just collecting unemployment. Or are you advancing your skills?" said Cathy McClure, who picked up one of the free training vouchers.
They can be used for online Microsoft courses ranging from intermediate level office programs to specialized courses for I.T. professionals. Beginner programs are free without a voucher.
