CHICAGO (AP) -- An emergency meeting will deal with Illinois' revived law requiring parents to be told when pregnant teens want an abortion.
The state's Medical Disciplinary board meets this afternoon (Friday) in Chicago to discuss doctors' role when the law is implemented.
Under the measure, doctors of teen patients must give parents' 48 hours' notice before doing an abortion. They also have the option to notify a judge instead.
While parents don't have to consent, doctors who don't notify anyone could face penalties.
The disciplinary board may come up with guidelines or other recommendations for how physicians should proceed.
A federal appeals court upheld the long-dormant law two weeks ago. It takes effect on Tuesday.
