ROCKFORD (WREX) - Rockford's new chief of schools will not meet a stipulation of her contract with the district.
Dr. Lavonne Sheffield was supposed to get her superintendent certification by July 31, but it's still pending. Dr. Sheffield took all her tests, filled out all the forms, and now just has to wait for the actual certification. The school board isn't worried if it comes after the deadline.
"They picked that date not really knowing how long that process would take and there's really no way to know because the state doesn't set a deadline for itself on processing certification applications. So the board is not concerned if the process takes a little longer than they were anticipating," District 205 Chief Communications Officer Mark Bonne said.
Linda Hernandez remains as Interim Superintendent in the meantime in case an official signature is needed.
