UNDATED (WREX) - A telemarketing group is trying to get your money by pretending to be a police organization.
The callers say they are with the "Illinois Council of Police" and they ask for donations.
Sherffif's departments in Jo Daviess, McHenry and DeKalb counties have issued an alert saying this group does not represent police officers.
"It is important to remember that the Illinois Sheriffs' Association never solicits by telephone. On the contrary, the Association has gone on record encouraging all police organizations to abstain from telemarketing," Director Sullivan.
If you get a call like this report it to the Illinois Sheriffs' Association at 217-753-2372.
You can report any other telemarketer complaints by calling 1-800-2430607.
