ROCKFORD (WREX) - An effort to bring in money for Parkinson's research inspires an unusual fundraiser.
Instead of a 5K or 10K run, people did a .10K run. That works out to about one city block. The race started in front of the Register Star and ended at Capri restaurant.
Scott Warner, whose mother is fighting the disease, says there's a good reason for the short distance. "I believe that there are a lot more people out there who want to give to a charity, who aren't necessarily the athletes who are going to be running in a 10k run," he said. "So we decided to come up with something a little bit more silly, but for a very serious cause."
Warner says about 280 people showed up for the run.
