
File PhotoUNDATED (WREX) - State health officials have now confirmed 1,101 cases of the swine flu virus in Illinois, including 26 in Winnebago County.
The number of confirmed cases in Winnebago County more than doubled from Thursday to Friday. Information has been released on 13 of the 14 new cases, 10 are children and 3 are adults.
The Winnebago County Department of Public Health says it continues to actively monitor the spread of H1N1.
"At this point, the majority of influenza A infections now being detected through testing of specimens nationwide are being found to be the novel H1N1 virus," says Mike Bacon, Public Health Director for the Winnebago County Health Department.
The majority of the state's swine flu cases are in Chicago and its surrounding counties.
There is one probable case of the virus in Cook County, and the counties of origin for seven of the confirmed cases have not been identified.
So far, Illinois has had three deaths related to the virus.
