ROCKFORD (WREX) - A center for teens that was forced to close because of money problems will reopen for at least 30 more days.
That announcement was made at a press conference Friday with the Salvation Army of Winnebago County and Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey.
Rockford's nCenter, located at 220 South Madison Street, closed Thursday because of a funding shortage. The Salvation Army operates and pays for the facility, but donations are down and the group says it just didn't have the funding to stay open.
A group called "Friends of nCenter" rallied at city hall Monday night and spoke to city aldermen at the city council meeting to show how important the nCenter is to the community. They think the city should step in and help fund the center.
A fund to help raise money for the center has been set up with keep the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. Call 815-962-2110 or click the link to the left of this story to donate. Just mention that you want your money to go to the nCenter.
