ROCKFORD (WREX) - Family and friends of homicide victims gather to remember their loved ones.
It was the 4th annual Homicide Survivor's Support Group Memorial Service. Each year families are invited to bring pictures of their loved ones for a candle lightning ceremony.
The support group meets monthly, but organizers say the memorial service draws big crowds every year. Barb Stone is a victim's advocate with the Winnebago County State's Attorney's office. She says, "We have people that come that have never been to that group, but this is their way of remembering their loved one and sharing that person with everyone else."
There was also a balloon release. Last year one of the balloons made it all the way to Detroit, Michigan.
