ROCKFORD (WREX) - Corey Pearson, general manager of the MetroCentre, considers leaving Rockford. People close to Pearson say he has a job offer from an out-of-state facility and is leaning toward taking it.
A person with direct knowledge of the matter says the MetroCentre Board meets tomorrow afternoon in closed session to discuss Pearson's possible resignation.
There are some on the board who don't want to see Pearson leave, but they say he's frustrated by the criticism the arena has taken in recent weeks. His critics blame him for the cash crunch which has hit the MetroCentre, requiring the city of Rockford to bail them out just yesterday.
But his supporters say the financial mess started many months ago and was kept under wraps by city leaders until after the April 7 election.
Pearson himself is avoiding the media. He left the MetroCentre immediately after a mid-afternoon press conference today.
Pearson has a contract with the MetroCentre, which could be a source of discussion at Thursday's meeting, if he decides to leave.
