Bruce BurtJO DAVIESS COUNTY - The trial of an Iowa man accused of hiring another man to kill a 13-year-old girl gets underway in Jo Daviess County.
David Damm is accused of paying Bruce Burt to kill Donnisha Hill, 13, of Waterloo, Iowa. Her body was found near Galena, Illinois in October of 2006. Donnisha had accused Damm of molesting her.
Burt is also charged with murder.
According to our sister station KWWL, the family of Donnisha Hill sat emotional as the prosecution retold the events from October 28, 2006. The prosecution also reminded the jury about the oath they took encouraging them to keep an open mind in the case with the hope to seek justice and put Donnisha to rest.
The defense reminded the jury there had to be a burden of proof beyond reasonable doubt.
They laid out bits and pieces of evidence may not fit together, resulting in questions of credibility. They also reminded them that they're hearing stories and finally that evidence can't lie, but Bruce Burt can.
Security has been tightened at the Jo Daviess County Courthouse for this trial which is expected to last several weeks.
