Historic Lowden State Park in Oregon is one of the parks scheduled to close.SPRINGFIELD - An online petition has started in an effort to save 11 Illinois state parks and 13 historic sites set to close.
The closures are part of state budget cuts affecting the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The parks include Lowden State Park and Castle Rock State Park in Oregon.
The online petition is designed to show Governor Rod Blagojevich how important these parks and sites are to families in Illinois. "All of us have a duty to maintain and protect our state parks for the next generation," said Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn.
