Chief Meteorologist Eric Sorensen has more than a decade of on-air forecasting experience and is the only local Meteorologist who was born and raised in the Forest City.
In June 2008 he received the prestigious Silver Dome Award for 'Best TV weathercast' from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. His work isn't limited to television. His forecasts can be heard on B103, 104.9 The X, and 1330-WNTA during the day. He also manages the 13 Weather Authority Blog.
He attended St. Edwards Grade School and Boylan High School here in Rockford before attending Northern Illinois University. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology, Eric worked at KTRE in Lufkin, Texas and KLTV in Tyler, Texas.
Eric's parents live in Belvidere and are viewers every night. He has an older brother who lives in the western suburbs and a sister in Southern Wisconsin. He's happy to share his Rockford home with the official 13News Weather Lab (a ten year old black lab named Theo). When he's not at work he can be seen hitting the slopes in the winter, riding his bike on the Sinnissippi bike path in the spring, tubing the Mighty Kish in the summer, or working on his model train layout in the fall.
Little Known Facts about Eric:
Eric was born at 12:34 in the afternoon of March 18. A little more than 12 hours earlier and he would've been "Patrick Sorensen."
He rarely gets super, shivery cold. He's been known to grill out in the winter and shovel his driveway in shorts.
Eric's only been to three countries other than the United States: Canada, Mexico, and The Bahamas.
Eric's nickname is "Brappy", a word he made-up.
When Eric was in high school, people often called him Jeff by mistake because his license plate was JEF 911.
Eric successfully smuggled his black lab into a Memphis hotel's glass elevator without being noticed.
His favorite color is blue.
Most of his friends find it odd that Eric admits to liking bleu cheese, anchovies, and liver sausage.
