ROCKFORD (WREX) -  Parents at some of the six schools slated to close after this year are still in shock over the Rockford School Board's votes at Tuesday night's meeting.

Many aren't sure about where their kids will go to school next year.  That's true for parents and staff at schools like Summerdale.  They just learned they were on the chopping block a week ago so they're still stunned.

Antwonniki Wainwright is the president of Summerdale's Parent Teacher Organization.  Her son goes to Summerdale and she says he's confused about what's happening to his school. "He doesn't understand why they're closing his school, he asked me this morning mommy why are they going to close our school? What did we do? So he thinks that the kids did something wrong."

The Rockford School Board voted to close Summerdale instead of Westview.  Teachers call it a surprise move.  Bonnie Leitner has been a teacher at Summerdale for 18 years and says today's been difficult.  "It's really hard when you have a little kid come to you and say, where am I going to school next year, and I don't even know where I'm going or where any of them are going so it's been a rough day."

Even though New Milford School was on the original list of closures District 205 Administrators proposed, parents like Marilyn Scott say it doesn't make it any easier.  "I understand that we have a budget crisis and schools had to close, but I don't understand why you'd close a well performing school."

Others, like New Milford School PTO Vice President John Grogan wonder how all the students will fit into where they're supposed to go next year, Froberg Elementary School.  "They're shifting all these kids in to Froberg piled on top of each other, but I don't really think that's the best decision."

New Milford parents want the staff and administration there, to transfer to Froberg.  They plan to switch their focus now on making that happen.

The four other schools slated to close are Stiles Elementary, Skyview School, Jackson Elementary and Kennedy Middle School.
