ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Rockford school bus driver who helped keep kids calm during a tornado last month is honored by the district.
Virginia Rezazedeh was named employee of the month at Tuesday night's school board meeting.
Rezazedeh was the driver of the bus that was blown off the road and flipped into a field during the tornado that ripped through eastern Winnebago County and western Boone County last month.
District administrators praised her for her quick thinking and actions to keep the kids calm and safe.
Several kids were hurt during the accident at Harlem and Argyle roads. The most serious was 9-year-old Michael Wood, who suffered a cracked vertebrae.
