UNDATED (WREX) - A rare weather pattern may have spawned a tornado that caused major damage in western Boone County and eastern Winnebago County.
13 Weather Authority's Aaron Brackett was chasing the storms for us all afternoon and first reported a tornado down near Perryville and Riverside at 3:00 p.m. That storm blew through the Rock Cut State Park area and into Boone County.
Aaron chased the storm into Caledonia where he reported homes that are partially damaged, a grain bin that has been destroyed, power lines down all over those areas and trees blocking roadways. Aaron sent us exclusive video during our live coverage on WREX and on WREX.com. Those were the first images that came in from the storm. You can watch that clip at the top of this story.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department says the main downtown area in the Village of Caledonia will be closed from 9:00 p.m. Monday until 6:00 a.m. Tuesday. Only people who check in at the main command center at Main Street and Route 173 will be allowed into that area during that time.
Authorities tell us students in all schools in the county took shelter during the Tornado Warning.
So far there are no injuries reported in Boone County. However, six Rockford students were hurt when their bus flipped over in Loves Park. You can read that story by clicking the link along the left of this page.
A viewer in Loves Park captured the tornado on video as it was coming through. His video is posted on You Tube at the following link:
