Winnebago County accident reports available online

By Marissa Sherer

ROCKFORD (WREX) -  Car accident victims in Winnebago County can now get copies of their accident reports online.

The county's using a website called "Doc View" to post them.  Most reports are posted within 24 hours of an accident.  Sheriff Richard Meyers says the system is more convenient for people because they don't have to stop by the department to get a copy of one.  He thinks insurance companies will get the most use out of the new online system.  "For them its a matter of dollars and it's a matter of convenience, and for them to send someone down here it's certainly a lot more expensive than it would be to simply go online and print off a copy for the nominal fee that's charged."

It costs $11 to get the report online.  It's $5 to get it from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department.
