Rescue Mission guests cleaning up Rockford

ROCKFORD (WREX) - About 20 guests from the Rockford Rescue Mission's Men's Crisis Shelter will be hard at work cleaning up part of the city.

"Clean Sweep" is an effort to clean up trash and other debris that has been left along West State Street from the Mission to the Rock River Bridge.

"Even if they aren't originally from this area, these men consider Rockford ‘home' because of the acceptance and assistance the community has given to them, and they want to give back," said Rockford Rescue Mission Executive Director Sherry Pitney. "In so many cases, time and effort are the only things these homeless individuals have to offer, so they're eager to share these gifts in any way they can. Our ‘Clean Sweep' event gives them an opportunity to work together to make Rockford an even better place for all of us!"

The men will be cleaning up the area from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
