Veterans give Nashold students a history lesson

By Marissa Sherer

ROCKFORD (WREX) -  Students at Nashold Elementary School get a live history lesson from a group of military veterans.

Fifth graders had the chance to meet with about 20 vets and ask any questions about serving in the military.  After that, the group spoke at an all-school assembly, where students also presented a check worth $8,000 to veterans organizations.  U.S. Navy Veteran Bob Hatfield says the students did a great job raising money to help members of the military.  "It makes me feel proud of them. They're up and coming and they respect the people that have been in, and I'm sure the majority will be in themselves, in the military."

Students also got to see a military Humvee that was on display outside the school.
