Man killed in Stephenson County crash

STEPHENSON COUNTY (WREX) - An early morning crash kills a young man and sends several other young adults to the hospital.

The Stephenson County Sheriff's Office says just before 4:00 on Sunday morning, an SUV and a car collided head on West Galena Road, east of Crossroads Road.

Investigators say Dustin W. Pontnack, 24, was driving the car.  He was taken to the emergency room, where he died.  Pontnack was from Lena.  His passengers, Perry Keltner and Christopher Coonts, also from Lena, went to area hospitals as well.

The driver of the SUV, 21-year-old Andrew Balbac of Warren, also went to the hospital.  He and Keltner both had to be airlifted.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.  All of the victims had to be cut out of the vehicles, which was difficult due to the severe damage.
