Rockford College puts focus on history to bring students together

ROCKFORD (WREX) - A celebration at Rockford College looked a little bit like a graduation, but it was actually a ceremony to kick off the beginning of the school year.

The President's Opening Convocation sets the tone for the year and talks about upcoming anniversaries and goals. For students, it's also a way to learn more about the tradition they will become part of as they complete their classes.

"Especially if they're from out of state, they get a lot of history of the area and the college. They get to realize what kind of college it is," said senior Lisa Elsner.

"I took away the optimism for creating your own bright future," added sophomore Elisa Lopez.

"I didn't go last year because I didn't have classes on Fridays, so I didn't come out to campus. I really wish that I would have, because it was really pretty cool," said senior Jenifer Swanson.

About 400 students, faculty, and staff took part in the convocation.
