ROCKFORD (WREX) - With many businesses struggling to stay afloat, recently it's been rare to see a large company not only meet profit goals, but also post a major gain. Tim Morris keynote speaker at Rockford College's business luncheon retired from a company that saw an increase this year. Hamilton Sundstrand's parent company United Technologies saw a 20 percent profit in the first quarter this year.
At the luncheon, Morris, who retired from Sundstrand in February, talked about the company's success. He shared his thoughts about what worked there and what might work for other Rockford companies. Morris was with the company when United Technologies put major cost cutting into action.
Morris says they everything from travel expenses all the way to supplies.
"Hamilton Sundstrand's parent company United Technologies did have a really good first quarter because during the economic downturn we took rapid action," says Morris.
Rockford is Hamilton Sundstrand's second largest site with more than 22-hundred employees.
