ROCKFORD (WREX) - A candidate for the U.S. Senate pushes to bring high speed rail to Rockford.
Andy Martin told Winnebago County Republicans his plans for transportation if elected.
Martin says he helped form support for building I-39 years ago, and now wants to do the same with rail. Martin says he also wants to upgrade Rockford's airport instead of building a new one in Peotone.
"Upgrade Rockford airport, upgrade Rockford transportation, upgrade high speed rail, and build the kind of network that will create an environment for jobs and investment. That's what we need," Martin said.
He faces Don Lowery, John Arrington, Kathleen Thomas, Tom Kuna, Bob Zadek, Mark Kirk, and Patrick Hughes in the primary.
