Thousands of phone calls fight video gambling law

Posted: Updated:

ROCKFORD (WREX) - The fight over video gambling in Rockford could come to your phone.  A group called the Illinois Family Institute sent 10,000 calls, and may do more, to push for a ban on the gambling.

It's legal in Illinois, but individual cities can opt out.  Rockford's Code and Regulations Committee recommended not to do that.  Now it's up to the full Rockford City Council.

The Illinois Family Institute says allowing gambling will bring a bad element to the area.  Supporters point to the money it would generate for road improvements.
