ROCKFORD (WREX) - UPS is cutting about 100 part-time jobs at its package handling facility at the Chicago Rockford International Airport.
A drop in volume blamed on the ongoing recession is the reason the company cited for cutting the jobs. This is in addition to the release of about 600 seasonal part-time package handlers, which is standard for the company.
A company spokesperson says some of the laid-off workers could be called back if demand starts to increase.
The cuts do not affect full-time workers and are unrelated to the deal UPS just reached with the state of Illinois to expand and create more full-time jobs at the hub in the future.
