CHICAGO (WREX) - Some new security equipment will be used to check travelers at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
The body-scanning security equipment is expected to be in place sometime in the first six months of the new year.
The Chicago Department of Aviation has not said how many scanners will be installed or whether they're the type critics have called "virtual strip searches."
O'Hare has 12 security checkpoints within the airport terminals.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Aviation Department is urging travelers to remain vigilant when traveling through both of Chicago's airports in the coming days. Aviation Department Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino says police and security officers will be more visible at O'Hare and Midway airports. Authorities are asking everyone to report anything suspicious they see at the airports.
The concerns come after a thwarted attempt to bomb a Detroit-bound flight on Christmas Day.
