Barmore Case: Presser scheduled to discuss Brown subpoenas

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) - Winnebago County State's Attorney Joe Bruscato has scheduled a press conference to discuss the grand jury subpoenas related to the Mark Barmore case.

The presser is set for 2:00 p.m. today.

Sheila Brown and Marissa Brown are the witnesses that claim Barmore surrendered before being shot by Rockford Police officers Oda Poole and Stan North. They were subpoenaed to testify in the Illinois State Police investigation, but holiday travel plans had them in Mississippi on that day. They wanted the grand jury pushed back two weeks, but their request was denied.

Last week a Winnebago County grand jury cleared officers Poole and North of any wrongdoing in the shooting of Barmore.

On Saturday, the Reverend Jesse Jackson came back to Rockford and encouraged a crowd to fight for a federal investigation and a different outcome in the case. Jackson came to rally the community several times after the shooting.

Barmore, 23, was shot by police during an incident inside the basement of the House of Grace pre-school and daycare which is housed by Kingdom Authority International Ministries in the 500 block of North Court Street on August 24.
