ROCKFORD (WREX) - An increase in requests for help from Alzheimer's patients and their families means a new home for a local group. The Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association recently moved to a much larger office. It's now at 1111 South Alpine. The new place has a bigger lending library, a private meeting space and a state of the art training center. It's the third location the Alzheimer's Association has had since it opened 11 years ago in the Rockford area. "Unfortunately it's because the need is growing. Alzheimer's disease is expanding at a rapid rate and will increase dramatically as the baby boomers reach the age of risk", says Alzheimer's Association President Erna Colborn.
Currently more than half a million people in Illinois are impacted by Alzheimer's and that number will grow as boomers get older.
