Statue of Chicago sportscaster legend repaired

Associated Press - December 18, 2009 8:14 AM ET

CHICAGO (AP) - A granite statue memorializing Chicago sportscaster Jack Brickhouse is back on display after a full renovation.

The statue reappeared this week on Chicago's Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue. It was removed last month because of disrepair.

Chris Stevens of LS Contracting Group helped work on the repairs. He says the statue was collapsing under its own weight.

For more than four decades, Brickhouse broadcast the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Bulls and Bears. He died in 1998.

His wife Pat Brickhouse says the statute looks as pristine as when it was dedicated in 2000. She says a rededication ceremony will be held soon.

She says donations are paying for the work. That includes some from the Chicago Baseball Museum.
