Salvation Army prepares Christmas dinner boxes for needy families


ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Salvation Army also a drop in food donations and an increase in need. 14% more people this year need help compared to last.

Volunteers are busy putting together boxes of food so people in need can still have a holiday dinner.

"It's roughly 2,900 families, last year that averaged out to about 8,000 people within the community and for most of them its the only source of a Christmas dinner," Col. Tom Lewis, Business Administrator for the Salvation Army, said.

The Salvation Army is also struggling getting donations for its Red Kettle Camgaign. So far its raised about $117,000. There's only 8 days left and the goal is $180,000.
