FRANKLIN, Wis. (AP) - Volunteers in a Milwaukee suburb plan to pack more than 12,000 homemade cookies to send to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for the holidays.
It's being done by the local chapter of Books for Soldiers at the public library in Franklin on Friday and Saturday.
The group's Web site is where deployed troops post requests for items to help them through their deployments. Volunteers nationwide view the requests to determine which ones they can help fulfill.
The nonprofit organization says it's currently $35,000 short of the funds needed to keep operating.
