CHERRY VALLEY (WREX) - A new SONIC restaurant is now open by CherryVale Mall and there are plans for four more to open in the near future.
The location at 2137 S. Perryville Road, directly south of the Menards Parking lot across from CherryVale Mall, opened to the public on Saturday. Sunday was its first full day of operations.
"We are very excited to open the first SONIC in Cherry Valley," said Chris Hunter, representative from MHR, franchise owner of the Cherry Valley SONIC Drive-In. "We look forward to serving the community and delivering the fun Carhop service SONIC Drive-Ins are known for across the country."
This is the third store to open this year in northwestern Illinois this year. The other two locations are in Belvidere and Freeport.
Plans are also in the works to open SONIC restaurants in Loves Park, Machesney Park, DeKalb and Janesville.
The Loves Park location should be open by late spring or early summer 2010. The proposed site is at Forest Hills and Riverside by the CVS Pharmacy. The Machesney Park location will be built in the booming Route 173 area.
