Wisconsin rolls past Michigan St. 7-3

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Brendan Smith and Michael Davies each had two goals and an assist and Derek Stepan had a goal and three assists as Wisconsin rolled to a 7-3 win over Michigan State in the first round of the College Hockey Showcase on Friday.

Smith scored the first two goals of the game for the Badgers (8-4-1), who outshot the Spartans 36-29.

The Badgers were 3 for 5 on the power play, including Smith's goal in the first period. Blake Geoffrion and Davies had power-play goals in the third. Aaron Bendickson also scored for the Badgers, who improved to 8-0 when scoring four or more goals this season.

Brett Bennett made 26 saves for Wisconsin, while Drew Palmisano had 21 saves and Bobby Jarosz eight for the Spartans (9-4-2).

Derek Grant, Matt Grassi and Corey Tropp scored for Michigan State.
