CHICAGO (AP) - Just as the holiday shoppers hit their stride, Chicago's city workers are pulling back temporarily.
The city is reminding residents and visitors that Friday is the second of what city officials call reduced services days - a cost-cutting move prompted by the rough economic times.
The designation means that City Hall and most other city offices will be closed, as well as Chicago's public libraries and public health clinics. But the police and fire departments will remain at full strength.
The first reduced service day was Aug. 17, and the final one will be Christmas Eve.
