Church may break record with Thanksgiving meal

Posted: Updated:

ROCKFORD (WREX) - A group of dedicated volunteers trade the holiday with their families to spend it with those in need.

Court Street United Methodist Church serves a meal every Thanksgiving.  It's for those people who can't afford a meal, but also for people who might have spent the day alone.

"I do this because I like giving back," volunteer Raymone Roberts said.  "I'm fortunate that I work every day, and I have some great friends, a lot of responsibilities, and this one day it's nice to give back."

Organizers say they may have set a record, perhaps serving as many as 1,400 meals.
