Girl Scout holds Veterans Day Ceremony

Posted:

ROCKFORD (WREX) - A different school celebration comes with special meaning for one student.

"My father is a veteran. I feel that it is important to honor the veterans because they have fought for our freedom, and for our country, so that we can have freedoms," Cassie Ayars said.

The high school junior organized a Veterans Day assembly for North Love Christian School.  It's part of her project to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor the organization has.

The ceremony today honored veterans with performances and gifts.  Cassie also arranged for veterans to visit certain classes and answer questions.
