Sydney Ives was named an honorary IceHog for a day back on May 20, 2009.
Ives died from an inoperable brain cancer on Saturday.
ROCKFORD (WREX) - The Rockford IceHogs will have a special tribute to Sydney Ives, the little girl who lost her long battle with cancer last week.
Ives lost her brave fight against cancer late Saturday night. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May of 2008. She was just 11 years old.
Ives was named an honorary IceHog for a day in May of this year.
On Friday, the team will observe a moment of silence before its game. The team will also wear "Ivestrong" stickers on their helmets during their two-game homestand this weekend, and a nameplate and honorary jersey with the number 19 and the word "Ivestrong" on the back will hang in the IceHogs locker room for the rest of the season.
Donations for her family will also be accepted near the U.S. Cellular Fan Zone during the games.
Funeral services were held for Sydney in Rockford earlier this week.
