Local teams gear up for state quarterfinals

Stillman Valley shut down Winnebago Saturday to earn a berth in the state quarterfinals.

Belvidere North rallied in the second half to knock off Chicago Hubbard Saturday.

Lena-Winslow ended Dakota's perfect season Saturday getting revenge for their regular season loss to the Indians.

UNDATED (WREX) - A handful of local teams will try to keep their High School football state championship dreams alive this weekend.

Stillman Valley is the lone unbeaten team in our area still standing. They defeated Winnebago for the second time this season, cruising to a 35-0 victory on Saturday. Stillman Valley will take on Sterling (Newman Central Catholic) Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Sterling.

Belvidere North continues to play the role of underdog, roaring back in the second half last week to knock off Chicago Hubbard 29-26. Up next for the Blue Thunder, a road game against Crystal Lake (Prairie Ridge) Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Lena-Winslow hopes to keep the momentum going from its upset win over the previously unbeaten Dakota Indians. Lena-Winslow will play at East Dubuque on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
