Little girl loses long battle with cancer

Posted: Updated:

ROCKFORD (WREX) - Sydney Ives loses her brave fight against cancer.  We have been following her story for more than a year.  She was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May of 2008.

Sydney's aunt tells us she passed away on Saturday night at 11:10.  She was 11 years old.

Throughout her battle, Sydney got a lot of support from the entire community.  Her extended family was also there every step of the way.

"Sydney's very close with her cousins. They've all grown up more like brothers and sisters. And so it meant a huge deal to have them around, camping out in the living room," said Sydney's mother, Tasha Ives.  "She's just an amazing girl who went through a really tough journey, and showed the grace and strength that many adults would lack in the same situation."

Sydney's visitation and funeral are both at Rockford First Assembly.

Visitation: Wednesday 4pm - 8pm

Funeral: Thursday 10:30 am

The Ives family also has a website.  Click here to go to that.
