ROCKFORD (WREX) - An 18-year-old man faces charges in the shooting of a teen in front of Auburn's freshman campus.
Jesus G. Camacho is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He's being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
On Monday around 9:00 a.m., police say Camacho shot an Auburn 9th grader in the leg before classes began at Auburn's freshman campus.
Police say the 14-year-old victim was walking near the 500 block of North Pierpont when a red SUV type vehicle pulled up near him and a man inside started firing.
Police found the red vehicle Monday evening in the 1600 block of 13th Avenue and arrested Camacho a short time later at a nearby home.
The teen was treated and released.
The Auburn freshman and main campus and nearby McIntosh Elementary were put on lock down during the incident Monday.
